Description

Jeanie Johnston reports for Good Evening Ulster on the success of a new hostel for the disabled in Belfast, opened a year earlier. Situated off the Lisburn Road, the Ardkeen building was opened by the Northern Ireland Council for Orthopaedic Development and seeks to provide housing and specialist care for adults who had been looked after by parents now too elderly to continue to do so.

A representative of the organisation explains that in the past people may have had to go into old people's homes, which would have been entirely unsuitable for them. Thanks to the new hostel they are able to mix with people of a similar age and experience a much higher quality of life.
