Description

This report covers the first telecommunications equipment company in Ireland catering specifically for deaf people. Nitext Limited was set up by telecommunications expert Eamon Mahon and psychologist Susan Phoenix, who recognised the need for deaf people and people with hearing difficulties to be able to have private phone conversations. They sell devices that can hook into the phone line and display the conversation as text. They also sell smoke alarms for the deaf. Mahon and Phoenix hope they can help make everyday life more inclusive and safer for deaf people across the country.
