Description

In this striking piece of film, a large crowd gathers for point-to-point meeting in connection with the Mid-Antrim Hunt Club at Galgorm on Saturday the 30th of March 1930. The event provides a snapshot of 1930’s society, from country people in flat caps to glamorous ladies in cloche hats and leopard skin coats.

The film was probably shot by John Dermot Campbell and it is part of the Campbell Family Collection.

Notes

Point-to-point was run during the non-hunting season from February to May by horses regularly ridden at fox hunts. These races originated in England in the second half of the 19th century as a way to keep hunters fit and were initially called hunt races. All riders were amateurs.
