Description

Jackie Fullerton of UTV enters a very disappointed Northern Ireland dressing room after their defeat to Spain at the 1986 World Cup. Sadly, there was to be no repeat of the heroics against the same opponents four years earlier in that most remarkable of Northern Irish victories in Valencia. Northern Ireland conceded two goals from defensive errors but pulled themselves back to 2-1 in the second half and really should have had a penalty at one stage. Captain Sammy McIlroy is clearly devastated at the loss and veteran goalkeeper Pat Jennings then knew that his next game against the giants of Brazil was likely to be his last before retirement.
