Description

Norman Stockton reports for Good Evening Ulster on the latest meeting of secretary of state Tom King and Irish tanaiste Peter Barry as part of the Anglo-Irish Agreement at Stormont Castle. Unionist protestors outside the grounds include DUP councillor Gregory Campbell and Assembly member Jim Wells, who try to break through the barbed wire fence with a cutting tool and are arrested. There is also a symbolic gesture by elected council representatives, who hang their chains of office on the barbed wire.

There is footage of workers in East Belfast blocking off the Sydenham bypass for a time and Peter Robinson voices his continuing anger at the presence of the Irish delegation to reporter Norman Stockton. Tom King, meanwhile, hopes that people will begin to see the facts about the Agreement and not believe the misleading narrative that it gives the Irish government joint rule over Northern Ireland.
