Description

A report for Good Evening Ulster on a press conference held by John Hume, leader of the SDLP. He is discussing the current election campaign resulting from the mass resignation of Unionist MPs in protest at the Anglo-Irish Agreement. The party is only standing in a very limited number of constituencies where they feel they have a good chance of unseating the Unionist candidate and claims it needs no further mandate from the electorate. Hume accused the Unionist politicians of not engaging in dialogue with his party and of playing into the hands of the paramilitaries. He urges them to reconsider their stance, insisting "we can live together or we can live apart."
