Description

A report by Norman Stockton for Good Evening Ulster on the SDLP Annual Conference. Just one year after the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement, John Hume speaks from the stage urging Unionists to abandon their campaign and to engage in dialogue. He is also vociferous in his condemnation of the armed campaign by the Provisional IRA, supported by Sinn Fein. The report also features an interview with SDLP deputy leader Seamus Mallon, who rules out support for the RUC while questions remain unanswered in the Stalker Affair - an inquiry into an alleged RUC shoot-to-kill policy, whose head, Detective Chief Superintendent John Stalker, was controversially removed in June 1986.
