Following the dissolution of the Northern Ireland
Assembly, during the political fallout following the signing of the Anglo-Irish
Agreement, Unionist politicians decided to continue meeting. In defiance of the
winding up of the chamber at Stormont, they moved their meeting to the main
council chamber at Belfast City Hall. Despite the attempt to continue the
Assembly, it was agreed that it would meet just once more before summer recess
and would then only reconvene in an emergency.
The report for Good Evening
Ulster shows Ken Maginnis of the Ulster Unionists speaking on the floor and an
interview afterwards with his party leader, James Molyneaux, who talks about
what he hopes to achieve with the unofficial Assembly, which carried no legal
standing.
