Ivan Little reports for Good Evening Ulster on the
aftermath of the 'Invasion of Clontibret'. On the night of 7 August 1986
several hundred loyalists, as part of the continuing protests against the
signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement, crossed the border into Co Monaghan and
reached the village of Clontibret. There, they proceeded to vandalise property
and two Gardai officers were attacked and hospitalised. Armed Gardai broke up
the protest and arrested DUP deputy leader Peter Robinson at the scene.
The report follows
the legal consequences the following day, with Robinson detained in jail and
refusing food. His legal representative is interviewed as well as the DUP's
Nigel Dodds and Robinson's wife, Iris.
