Description

As Unionist protests against the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement entered a second year, DUP leader and Member of the European Parliament, Ian Paisley, escalated his campaign to a much wider audience.

This report for Good Evening Ulster opens with British prime minister Margaret Thatcher beginning an address to the European Parliament at Strasbourg, only to be interrupted almost immediately by Mr Paisley, who hands her a letter demanding a referendum on the Agreement. He goes on to unfold an 'Ulster Says No' poster and to denounce her as a traitor.

Paisley was restrained by officials and eventually ejected from the chamber, but his protest would have been screened throughout Europe on news bulletins.
