This report for Good Evening Ulster was made on the day
of the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement between the governments of the
United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland at Hillsborough Castle. It focuses
on a large crowd of members and supporters of the DUP who set up in protest to
the Agreement in the village of Hillsborough the day before and occupied
council offices.
Jim Allister, then a
DUP councillor and Assembly member and eventually leader of the splinter party
Traditional Unionist Voice is interviewed. Jim Wells, Assembly member and
future Northern Ireland devolved government minister, can be seen addressing
protesters from a balcony during the office occupation.
