A Good Evening Ulster report on the first Ulster
Resistance Rally, held the previous night at Belfast's Ulster Hall as part of
continued protests against the Anglo-Irish Agreement. 4,000 people attended, including
Unionist politicians, Orange Order members, clergymen and members of the Ulster
Clubs. The leader of the Clubs, Alan Wright, spoke from the stage and those
present pledge to resist the Anglo-Irish Agreement by 'all means necessary'.
Uniformed members of
the resistance, wearing red berets, can be seen marching at the front of the
Ulster Hall, but Ian Paisley and Peter Robinson refuse to comment on
suggestions that the group had paramilitary overtones. Sean Farren of the SDLP
voices his concerns about the military trappings.
