Description

A Good Evening Ulster report on the nationalist and republican responses to the forthcoming by-elections in Northern Ireland following the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement and the mass resignation of Unionist MPs. Eddy McGrady, himself a future SDLP MP, rules out any kind of electoral pact with Sinn Fein to maximise the anti-Unionist vote on the grounds that they couldn't collaborate with any party condoning violence.

Gerry Adams is also interviewed, giving the Sinn Fein position that the SDLP are collaborating with Unionism and the British government and looking for an excuse to return to the Northern Ireland Assembly. The SDLP response to the Agreement had been one of cautious welcome whereas Sinn Fein had rejected it for not furthering the concept of a United Ireland.
