Description

A UTV Live report on the momentous news that the Provisional IRA has announced a cessation of all military activity. The news is welcomed by UK prime minister John Major, but he wants to know if the move was permanent. Also on screen giving his opinion is Gerry Adams but, with the broadcasting ban on Sinn Fein still in place, his voice is provided by an actor.

Ulster Unionist leader, James Molyneaux, gives a cautious welcome, but feels that the statement is missing an indication that it is permanent. Ian Paisley of the DUP refuses to accept the statement as being meaningful, but John Hume of the SDLP believes that it should be taken at face value.
