Description

Ken Reid reports for UTV Live on an historic occasion, as Mary Robinson makes the first ever formal visit by an Irish president to the UK. Although it is called an Official Visit rather than a State Visit, it is to all intents and purposes the latter.

Robinson's visit represented a new highwater mark in relationships between the UK and the Republic of Ireland as the President visited the Queen at Buckingham Palace. It was further evidence of a dividend from the peace process and the strengthening of ties between the two countries helped to drive the process onwards.
