Description

After a week of rioting across Northern Ireland - following the second stand-off centred around the Drumcree march - came a huge bomb attack upon the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen. This UTV report by Susie Miller shows the destruction to the hotel and interviews both the hotel owner and local Unionist politician Sam Foster. Responsibility for the attack was later claimed by the Continuity IRA, a breakaway faction who remained committed to the armed conflict rather than ceasefires and talks.

With splits emerging in the ranks of both republican and loyalist terror groups, it was a dangerous time for the peace process, with no certainty which factions within the paramilitaries would gain the upper hand.
