Description

Niall Donnelly reports for UTV Live on the day's negotiations at Stormont, with the deadline set for the conclusion of talks just over a week away. Even so close to the historic Agreement, a deal looks almost impossible, with all parties some distance apart on a whole range of subjects. One of these is the issue of the Irish constitutional claim to Northern Ireland.

UUP Deputy Leader John Taylor speaks to the press about this, while Liz O'Donnell of the Irish government insists that there can be no movement on the issue unless there is first movement on the issue of North/South institutions. Seamus Mallon also speaks to the press, saying that the requirements of nationalism are not being met. Gerry Adams appeals for prime minister Tony Blair to become involved to bring about a level playing field for everyone. Northern Ireland secretary Mo Mowlam, however, says she is encouraged that they are now starting to get down to talking about the detail.
