Description

A report for UTV Live by Fearghal McKinney from the final day of peace talks at Stormont before the deadline imposed by Senator George Mitchell. The report shows the media scrum at Stormont and Mitchell setting off from his hotel for the crucial day of talks, with many outstanding areas of disagreement between the various political parties on a range of subjects.

Tony Blair and Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern meet the press following a joint breakfast, with Blair agreeing that it is important that no one should leave the talks building before an agreement has been signed that night. These turn out to be prophetic words. We are shown behind-the-scenes footage of Blair and his secretary of state for Northern Ireland, Mo Mowlam, as the countdown to the deadline marches on.
