Description

Letitia Fitzpatrick reports for UTV Live on two very differing press conferences held by Unionist parties in the lead up to voting day on the referendum on the Good Friday Agreement.

The Progressive Unionist Party are fringe Unionists representing the Ulster Volunteer Force paramilitary group. Their leadership have wholeheartedly embraced the peace process and its most prominent figure, David Ervine, speaks out at the conference in favour of the Yes campaign. Also speaking is former UVF commander Gusty Spence. He acknowledged that there are many victims in Northern Ireland and that he has perhaps contributed to that. However, he urges, "We have to bind up the wounds of this country of ours."

Meanwhile, the DUP holds an opposing press conference urging voters to reject the Agreement. The DUP says that they would be happy for any new Assembly to fall apart and for the British government to have to go back to the drawing board.
