Description

Jane Loughrey reports for UTV Live on Good Friday from the peace talks at Stormont. Following discussions into the early hours of the morning, word emerges that a deal has been struck between all parties in a history-shaping agreement to bring to an end almost 30 years of conflict in Northern Ireland.

Speaking to the press, John Hume declares, "Today is Good Friday and I think for the people of Northern Ireland it will be a very good Friday." David Adams of the UDP is almost overcome with emotion as he speaks to UTV.

Meanwhile, veteran Alliance politician Oliver Napier, who has seen many initiatives flounder before, says, 'I'm feeling over the moon... having been at Sunningdale and failing to come back here with an agreement, it's more than I could ever asked for... I have seen no sour faces. I think everybody is content... that they have done a good deal... it's a bloody miracle.'

Gusty Spence, an ex-commander of the UVF who has embraced the peace process states, "I knew it would happen and today is a day for everyone to rejoice and be joyful." While there are still reports of some minor disagreement as the parties study the new document, the sense of optimism, relief and celebration is tangible. Brid Rogers of the SDLP tells UTV that she has urged her son to come to Stormont to be there for history in the making.
