Description

Letitia Fitzpatrick reports for UTV Live on fresh talks between Irish taoiseach Bertie Ahern and other delegates at the Stormont talks, with just a handful of days remaining until the deadline for the conclusion of negotiations. Facing the press, John Hume appreciates the fact that both governments are involved at the highest levels as the parties adjust their positions in submissions to Senator Mitchell for his progress report.

As details of what might be included in a proposed deal begin to leak to the press, John Alderdice of the Alliance Party sounds a note of optimism, saying that the outline and much of the detail of a settlement has been agreed. While David Trimble assures an interviewer that he will be there at Stormont while there is any chance of a deal.
