Description

Ken Reid reports for UTV Live on the arrival of a Sinn Fein delegation at Stormont to sign up to the Mitchell Principles. It is a precondition for all parties wishing to take part in the peace talks to sign up to these principles pledging a commitment to non-violence. The report uses on-screen graphics to lay out all six of the principles but the worry now is that, with Sinn Fein involved in the talks, the Unionists will refuse to take part.

Senator George Mitchell is interviewed about his hopes for the talks, while John Hume urges the Unionists to come forward and sit in the talks with Sinn Fein, just as they did in local council chambers. Others such as Gerry Adams, John Alderdice and John White of the UDP all voice their concerns and hopes as the prospect of all parties sitting together for the first time suddenly becomes a possibility.
