Description

Jane Loughrey reports for UTV Live on the news for which people in Northern Ireland have been waiting 18 months during the peace process - the announcement of a renewed IRA ceasefire. While again not mentioning the word 'permanent' in connection to the ceasefire, the announcement doesn’t talk of wanting a permanent peace.

This report features footage from the press conference given by Gerry Adams that day as well as opinion from the British prime minister, Tony Blair. John Hume is also interviewed, expressing his hope that the next century could be the first in the island's history without blood on the streets.
